06 Pinot Noir, Carmine’s
Vineyard
Usually we blend Carmine Indindoli’s pinot noir grapes with the various
other vineyards of pinot that we purchase.
This
particular harvest of 2006 his pinot noir really stood out so we made a
vineyard designated wine. His vineyard is located in northern Sebastopol off
of Vine Hill School Road.
This pinot
is dark ruby in color with aromas of spice and dark fruits. The flavor is
full bodied, with a long and persistent finish with blackberry fruit that
hangs on your palate. It has great aging potential due to concentrated
flavor and good acid balance.

|
This pinot
was aged for 12 months in 100% French oak barrels, 60% new and 40% 1-2 years
old.

2009 Chardonnay
This was our
first attempt at chardonnay. The grapes are from Carmine Indindoli’s
vineyard on Vine School Road in Sebastopol. They are stainless steel
fermented and aged in one year old French barrels for four months. There is
no malalactic and the wine is more of a chablis style with bright acidity
and chardonnay apple flavors.
There is good
acid and a long finish on this wine and it will age well.
150 cases produced.

Tasting
Notes:
This
wine is light ruby in color with aromas of dark cherry and smoked
meats. The wine is medium bodied and well extracted, which results
in a rich middle body, followed by a long and somewhat acidic
finish. The flavors duplicate the aromas of fruit and smoke. The
wine is unfined and unfiltered.

2007 Pinot Noir
Our
2007 vintage is a composite of several areas within the RussianRiver
appelation. Each adds a certain expression of the pinot noir grape. This
selection contributes to the balance of the final blend of all five
vineyards. Using handcrafted, small vineyards, allows us to produce a
pinot with an exceptional level of quality. This particular release was
an exploration into the nature of pinot noir of the varied growing
regions in the Russian River area. By composing it that way, we achieved
a worthy expression of the pinot noir grape.

2006 Syrah
2006 was a great year for red
wine. Our 06 syrah grapes are from the Dry Creek Valley, both farmed by
Ray Teldeschi. They were picked at elevated sugar levels and maximum
ripeness. This accounts for the fruitiness of the wine. There are 8%
petite sirah grapes from the Russian River Valley blended into the
syrah.
We used open top fermentation
for this syrah. The wine was punched down by hand. The wine was aged in
100% French oak, 30% new barrels for 1 year. The wine is very dark ruby,
rich, and has a dark black raspberry fruit flavor juxtaposed to a very
rich, toasty vanilla flavor from the oak.
This syrah is balanced by
sufficient acidity, is very rich, and drinking well now. It has what it
takes to age 5-10 years. 450 cases produced.

2007 Zinfandel
The 2007 Mietz Zinfandel is
estate grown at our home vineyard on West Dry Creek Road, in
Healdsburg. The 20 year old vines are planted on a south facing
hillside and they are dry farmed. With this vintage, we added 10%
Petit Verdot from the Stemach Ranch in Kenwood, to the blend. It
enhanced the aroma and gave it a perfumed floral quality
Tasting Notes:
The The grapes were picked at ripe
sugar levels. This crop was picked at 24.0 brix which then soaked up to
25 brix, in the tank with a pH of 3.47. This process yielded a wine that
is balanced and not excessive in ripeness and showcases typical berry
fruit of a classic Dry Creek zin. The mouth feel has been expanded
through the addition of the Petit Verdot which was picked at full
maturity. The finish is long and enhanced by the firm acidity of the
Zinfandel fruit.
