THE VINEYARDS The Vineyards: The wine was produced from Harry Merlošs Vineyard, a mountain side sight, in the hills of the Dry Creek Valley. This vineyard is rocky with thin soil which helped to tame the productive nature of sangiovese vines.
This particular vintage needed a blend with 20% merlot, picked from this
same vineyard. |
WINE MAKING NOTES The most important thing was to get the fruit that expresses sangiovesešs positive characteristics such as suppleness in the mouth feel and its pure cherry fruit flavors. The merlot was needed to fill out the middle body. There was a seven day fermentation in open fermenters and it was punched down by hand, three times a day. The wine was gently pressed into 500 liter French puncheons and aged for a year. |
