Tasting Notes:
The
following tasting notes of highly recommended new merlots are from
editor Nick Ponomareff of the California Grapevine. This review was
from the top wines from several dozen tasted during a two month period and
outside of the regular "Grapevine" tasting panel format.
"2000 Mietz Sonoma County ($20)—Medium to medium dark ruby; attractive,
herbal, smoky, cherry fruit aroma with notes of green olive and dark plum;
medium to full body; forward, rich, supple, ripe black cherry fruit
flavor; medium full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Enjoyable now with
potential over several years.
VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
14.2 alcohol; 600 cases; blended with 10% cabernet franc and 10%
cabernet sauvignon; released March 2003 (My score:90 of 100 points)"
This is a powerhouse merlot that appeals to individuals that like more
robust wines. It will be drinkable, easily, for 7-10 years. |
